Home made up of man, woman and children, living in mutual love, trust and companionship, must of necessity represent sanity in a world of shifting values and loyalties, a world literally ebgulfed in conflicts and riddled with hunger, insecurity and misery. Songs of the Hearth shows that the home can generate enough love to recreate an entire society. Children become important - their birth, growth and happiness. Love then becomes an even greater enthralling concept and becomes a duty just like teaching and writing. The poems represent the emotions and thoughts of the author and readers might possibly find something of themselves therein.

Dr. Ure Mezu's other works include Women in Chains: Abandonment in Love Relationship in the fiction of Selected African Writers. She has also extensively written on feminist studies, anglophone and francophone African and Caribbean and African -American literature.
