Much critical work has been done on Wole Soyinka's dramatic and prose works, but very little on his poetry generally cryptic in nature and overpowering in pessimis. Soyinka refers to his pessimistic poetry as "the peotry of tragedy". Dr. Friday Mbom tries to crack the esoteric shell in which Soyinka encapsulates his later poems.
